40th Anniversary Scholarship Fund
Gay and Lesbian Community Center, Albany
The Capital District Gay and Lesbian Community Center (CDGLCC) is the oldest continuously-operating gay and lesbian community center in the country and is celebrating its 40th Anniversary in 2010. For the first time in its history, the CDGLCC is offering a significant scholarship to lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) high school students as they pursue college. Thanks to a considerable gift from Joshua Dunning Powell, the scholarship will provide four students with over $2000 towards their expenses during their first year of college.

Marketing Yourself to the Gay Community
Do Ask, Do Tell!
Despite the success of some Gay marriage bans on ballots across the United States, the Gay community is more visible and more widely accepted now than at any point in our history. The American public is increasingly seeing Gay couples on the job and at their workplace, in the community, on television, in school and in their churches. Openly Gay and Lesbian artists continue to be successful in film, television, literature and music industries. Openly Gay and Lesbian politicians have been elected to office on federal and state levels. There are even Gay themed television shows that mainstream America eagerly invite into their homes each week. And finally, Madison Avenue has taken notice and realized including the Gay and Lesbian community in their marketing and PR strategies can help generate profits never before imagined.
Gay Albany - A City of Diligence
When Albany was named capital of New York in 1777, our nation's founders could hardly have possessed the foresight to see what the region would become for the gay and lesbian community. Today, strong affiliations with nearby cities of Schenectady, Troy and Saratoga Springs make Albany the center of what is known as the Capital District, which is the forth-largest urban area in New York State. Reflecting the many diverse factions that make up a cosmopolitan area, the gay & lesbian community converges together to create Gay Albany. Dubbed "SmAlbany" for its hometown friendly feel, from its inception Albany seems to have been deemed as a city of determination, and has now exploded into the metropolis it is today, far surpassing any expectations in expansion and commerce....
